Germany and Spain together make 51.2%. The top five reach 82%. Everything from Romania down fits into the remaining fifth.
Germany leads, but the east caught up
The bigger story sits further east. The Czech Republic, Slovakia, Romania, Hungary and Poland now build 3,609,532 cars between them. That's 31.8% of the total, close to Germany's share. Slovakia alone makes just over a million with a population of around five and a half million.
Italy has the brands, not the volume
Italy shows nine badges, Ferrari and Lamborghini among them, and still ranks tenth at 237,975 units. Behind Portugal. Behind Sweden, which manages 247,972 with two brands.
Read the logos instead of the countries and you'll see why. Opel appears in seven of the twelve markets. Volkswagen, Peugeot and Fiat in five each. Platforms cross borders now, so a car wearing a French badge may well have been assembled in Spain or Slovakia. Italy kept its badges and handed the volume to other plants inside the same groups.
Why it matters if you run vehicles
Cars built near your market arrive sooner, which changes how you plan renewals. Fleets mirror local manufacturing strength, and that feeds into parts availability, maintenance contracts and residual values. Operate across several of these markets at once and you're handling different languages, currencies, tax treatments and registration processes in parallel. The EU's pending revision of its 2035 emissions target adds one more thing to plan around.
World Wide Mobility provides modular technology for rental, subscription, car-sharing, MaaS, and fleet-based services, helping companies digitize and scale their operations.
