Zeng Yuqun
Chinese businessman and battery expert. Founder and president of the battery manufacturer Contemporary Amperex Technology, that supplies more than 30% of the world's electric vehicle batteries.
An Academic
He obtained his PhD in Physics from the Institute of Physics of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS). In July 2021, he was appointed honorary dean of the Future Technology Institute of Shanghai Jiao Tong University.
Dr. Zeng is actively involved in promoting the academic development of the industry. He is currently a member of the Asian Solid State Ionic Matter Society and an academic member of the Clean Energy Center of the Institute of Physics.
Professional Journey
In 2011, Dr. Zeng founded CATL, a world leader in innovative new energy technologies, is the Chinese company that supplies batteries to Tesla, Kia and BMW Group.
Recognized as "The King of Electric Batteries", the company supplies more than 30% of the world's electric vehicle batteries. Under his leadership, CATL's valuation soared above 1.2 trillion Chinese yuan (about €171 billion).
Business success
Since 2017, CATL has been ranked No. 1 when it comes to global EV battery consumption volume, for 5 consecutive years.
In 2020, Dr. Zeng received the Lifetime Achievement Award from NAATBatt International for his contributions and achievements in the global commercialization of lithium-ion battery.
He also co-founded hashtag ATL in 1999, which later became the world's leading lithium-ion battery company for consumer electronics. At 55, Zeng also serves as vice president of the China Federation of Industry and Commerce.
